Poovar Island, Kerala.

Poovar is a town that is covered with serene backwaters around mangrove forests and a dreamy golden sand beach. Poovar is one of the most popular and beautiful tourist attractions in southern Kerala. Its natural environment itself enables it to be the greatest tourist spot. According to experts, Poovar has a natural depth of 20 to 30 meters and availability of government-owned lands and private-owned lands.

The Name Poovar as per the local Malayalam language comes from a conjunction of river and flower which was named by King Marthanda Varma when he saw the river Neyyar adorned with beautiful flowers on his visit.

Poovar has magnificent mangrove forests, bird watching zones and amazing beach to make it a wonderfully scenic spot to visit and travel. Hiring a boat will allow you to explore the mangrove forest, elephant rock view and the golden beach. The boat ride for 1 hr 30 mins costs around ₹1000 to ₹2500 per boat, which can accommodate 7 people. For solo travelers, it will cost around ₹200 to ₹800 per boat (depending upon the season).

You can also have awesome floating restaurant experiences in between the boat ride, with both veg and nonveg menus. Seafood and tender coconuts are so good to taste here. Also, there is a horse and camel ride on Golden Beach, Poovar.

Ps: Mr. Roshan from Poovar Boating Service club guided me greatly throughout the boating journey. If you like to have them as your guide too then please find the contact below.
